Barnsley 4DSOUND Masterclass by MONOM
As part of AND Festival 2026, MONOM presents a two-hour 4DSOUND Masterclass exploring the creative and technical possibilities of spatial sound composition using the 4DSOUND system.
4DSOUND is an omnidirectional spatial sound system designed to approach space as a creative medium. It can be thought of as an instrument in itself, allowing artists to explore sound, space and movement as interconnected elements of a composition.
Led by MONOM 4DSOUND engineer Alejandra Rios, the session offers an introduction to composing and working with sound in space using the 4DSOUND system, looking at how spatialisation can become an integral part of the compositional process.
Using field recordings from Barnsley as source material, Alejandra will demonstrate a practical 4DSOUND workflow: from preparing and working with recorded material to shaping movement, depth, scale and spatial relationships within the sound field. The session will explore how recordings can be transformed and recontextualised through spatial composition, with examples manipulated live within the 4DSOUND system.
The masterclass is open to musicians, sound artists, composers and anyone interested in spatial audio and creative technology. No previous experience with 4DSOUND is required.
The masterclass begins at 7:00 PM, but we invite you to join us from 6:00 PM to experience MONOM’s AND Festival commission Acoustic Memories inside the immersive spatial audio installation before the masterclass begins.
